Submission on the Initial Proposed Information and Communication Standard under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

February 1, 2009

Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Ontario is creating accessibility standards, which are rules that business and organizations in Ontario will have to follow to identify, prevent and remove barriers for people with disabilities. An initial proposed accessibility standard on information and communications was released for public review. ARCH wrote a submission on this initial proposed standard. Our submission recommends changes to the standard in order to clarify the relationship between the standard and Ontario’s Human Rights Code and to strengthen the requirements relating to accessibility of elections.
